Toy Story 4 Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores REVEALED as reviews praise Pixar sequel

Rotten Tomatoes is an aggregator that works out what percentage of reviews are positive; with 60% being the threshold to avoid being classed as “Rotten”. Metacritic, meanwhile, looks at the exact star ratings and grades each professional critic gives; working out a weighted score out of 100. Toy Story 4 is flying on both metrics.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an absolutely perfect score of 100% – meaning there have been no negative reviews thus far.

The consensus reads: “Heartwarming, funny, and beautifully animated, Toy Story 4 manages the unlikely feat of extending – and perhaps concluding – a practically perfect animated saga.”

Metacritic, meanwhile, gives a score of 84, indicating “universal acclaim”.

On Rotten Tomatoes, this – obviously – makes Toy Story 4 the joint highest-rated Pixar film to date; alongside Toy Story and Toy Story 2.

Toy Story 3 came incredibly close, and sits on 98%.

Over on Metacritic, it’s actually mid-table: its 84 score puts it below all three previous movies in the franchise; with Toy Story getting 95, Toy Story 2 getting 88 and Toy Story 3 achieving 92.

Of the 21 Pixar films to date, it is tenth: Ratatouille is the best (96), followed by Toy Story, Wall-E (both 95), Inside Out (94), Toy Story 3 (92), Finding Nemo, The Incredibles (both 90), Toy Story 2 and Up (both 88).

It is ahead of Coco (81), Incredibles 2 (80), Monsters, Inc. (78), Finding Dory, A Bug’s Life (both 77), Cars (73), Brave (69), The Good Dinosaur (66), Monsters University (65), Cars 3 (59) and Cars 2 (57).

Toy Story 4 still has a CinemaScore grade to be revealed: that metric measures audience responses, and will be announced as it opens in cinemas.

For context, Toy Story and Toy Story 3 were graded A, while Toy Story 2 got A+.

Toy Story 4 is out on Friday.
