Royal Ascot 2019: Racegoers put on a bold display in huge hats for Ladies Day
Royal Ascot 2019 continued today for the third day of the races and guests have put on their best frocks to head to the event. Day Three is Ladies Day and a number of colourful and bold outfits have been spotted as fans arrive. It is recommended attendees wear a hat when attending and some women have taken this on board by wearing some gigantic headpieces. A number of ladies have also arrived ready to brighten up the day in bright red garments.
Some racegoes demanded attention by wearing bold and colourful dresses and hats.
One woman took inspiration from Alice in Wonderland as she wore a pink floral daydress underneath a matching coat which had puff sleeves.
On her head, she wore a fascinator which had a white teacup on top of a pile of saucers, and she completed the look by holding a white teapot above her head.
Another woman drew attention in a fit and flare satin dress which featured the print of a union jack flag.
The long-sleeved dress cut off just above the knee and she matched this with a small red hat and clutch bag.
Other guests made a statement with their choice of eye-popping large hats.
A woman stepped out for Ladies Day wearing a wedding dress style sheer white dress which had a full floor-length skirt.
The dress was given a pop of colour as it had bright red flowers dotted all over the top part and also at the hem of the skirt.
However, it was her large hat which stole the show as she wore a sheer white design which shadowed her entire body.
Another racegoer wore a light blue dress which was covered in a sheer puffy design.
She paired this with a huge hat made from the same material in the style of a veil.
It also featured a selection of large grey, purple and pink flowers which crowned her head.
Since Royal Ascot began on Tuesday, it has attracted many racing fans as well as members of the Royal Family.
Yesterday, guests arrived battling the weather in a selection of white and pastel outfits.
One woman arrived for Day Two ready to turn heads in a huge fuchsia and metallic hat and matching dress.
What is the Royal Ascot dress code?
Known for being strictly implemented, the Royal Ascot dress code is one of the tightest in the racing world.
Royal Ascot produce a detailed guideline every year for guests to follow to ensure there are no style blunders.
The most stringent rules apply in the Royal Enclosure, with ladies having to wear dresses or skirts that fall just above the knee or longer.
Straps must be one inch or greater, with strapless, halter neck and spaghetti straps banned. Midriffs are also not allowed to be on display.
While trouser suits are allowed, they must be full length on the leg and matching material and colour.
Most importantly, hats must be worn, although headpieces with a solid four inch base are permitted. Fascinators are not allowed.
Men must wear black or grey morning dress which includes a waistcoat, tie, top hat and black shoes worn with socks.
This dress code is followed not only by guests but also by members of the Royal Family who attend.
The Queen Anne Enclosure and the Village Enclosure are slightly more relaxed, with fascinators allowed, and dresses or tops with thin straps permitted.
