Sophie Countess of Wessex debuted new tiara at the State Dinner – where does it come from?

Sophie Countess of Wessex is one of the best loved members of the Royal Family.

A former founder of a PR company, Sophie married into the Royal Family in 1999.

She continued to work privately for a few years before becoming a full time royal, attending official events on behalf of the Queen.

One such event is the recent US State Dinner to welcome Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to the UK.

The Countess looked stunning for the high profile event, wearing a lilac dress.

The gown had a v-neckline with sleeves that rested just off her shoulders. Ruching detail on the bodice emphasised Sophie’s waist while an al-line skirt fell flatteringly from her hips.

She held a silver clutch bag and wore purple shoes. Eagle-eyed fans may well have noticed something different about Sophie’s tiara.

The Countess of Wessex appeared to be wearing a new tiara.

It matched her dazzlingly large diamond necklace and earrings.

Is Sophie’s tiara new? On a closer inspection it appears the Countess has redesigned a piece she has worn many times before, her wedding tiara.

Sophie Countess of Wessex’s wedding tiara is the first royal tiara she ever wore, as it is with most royal brides. 

The original piece is made from twisting diamond floral motifs set on a a gold frame.

The tiara is thought to be made from four anthemion elements which were originally alternative pieces of Queen Victoria’s Regal Circlet.

However, the piece has had a makeover. Now it has been crafted into one tapering triangle shape at the front, instead of three separate diamonds peaks.

These pieces have now been set on a diamond band, with what looks like three rows of diamonds.

Was Sophie Countess of Wessex left out of the carriage parade at Ascot 2019. 

The Countess and her wife were noticeably missing from the royal carriages on the second day of Ascot.

One Twitter user lamented how they expected to see Sophie there among other royals. They wrote: “Maybe they’re letting others use the carriages & will meet up at the racecourse but I thought Princess Anne, Sophie & Edward (I know it’s their WA but they love Ascot) Andrew & the girls…”

Perhaps the pair decided to spend the morning alone, given they were celebrating 20 years of marriage.
