Star Wars: Rey SHOCK as new rumour hints Daisy Ridley will RETURN after Rise of Skywalker
Ridley has played scavenger Rey in the sequel trilogy, beginning with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015 and concluding later this year with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Whilst it was previously believed that the upcoming movie would draw a line under the whole Skywalker saga, it seems bosses are keen for some of this generation’s characters to pop up again.
According to We Got This Covered, in a claim that’s best taken with a huge pinch of salt for the time being, Rey will be pop up in one of the two upcoming trilogies.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss are developing a trilogy, as is The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson.
Currently only three more Star Wars films are locked-in on Disney’s release schedule, and it’s been confirmed that at least the first one is for Benioff and Weiss – indicating the other two complete their trilogy.
But with their stories thought to be focussing on Knights of the Old Republic – set in a different time period to the current movies – the assumption is that it’s Johnson who’d factor in Rey.
The report adds that she would not be a leading protagonist, but would have a supporting role – much like Luke, Leia and Han have had in the sequel trilogy.
John Boyega’s Finn is also reportedly on the wish-list, but this is less certain.
Of course the whole rumour is completely unverified by Lucasfilm and Disney at this point – and indeed very little is known at all about Johnson’s movies.
But for now, focus is on The Rise of Skywalker, which is out at the end of the year.
Keri Russell – who plays new character Zorri Bliss – said in a recent interview that the script left her in tears.
“When I read his script that he wrote I cried,” she told The Associated Press.
“I mean who knows what it will turn out to be and I hope it remains true to what he originally wanted.”
On Abrams’ suitability for the task in hand, she added: “He’s not trying to change it to be something else. He really respects what it is.”
Mark Hamill, meanwhile, has made it clear that he will be done with his role as Luke after the new film.
“I had closure in the last one,” he explained.
“The fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you’re a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force ghost.”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
