Spider-Man: Far From Home is just one of many sequels to debut this summer. Recent releases include Toy Story 4, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Dark Phoenix and Men in Black: International. And save for the first, most of the sequels have underperformed at the box office.

How will Spider-Man Far From Home do at the box office?

Predictions are just that, and though box office expectations are made by industry experts that doesn’t mean they’re right.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to take £99 million ($125m) over its first six days in cinemas in North America.

Sony, however, has predicted a more conservative £121.5m ($154m) for its Marvel title.

In China, Japan and Hong Kong the movie opened last weekend, making £87.95m ($111m).

SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME AGE RATING: HOW OLD MUST YOU BE BE TO SEE IT?

Spider-Man: Far From Home earned $98 million in China alone.

That makes the sequel the second-highest grossing title in China.

Spider-Man’s sequel is also the seventh best all-time opening for a studio film in the Middle Kingdom.

Spider-Man: Far From Home now holds the fourth best debut of all time for a superhero film.

The Peter Parker sequel came in behind Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War and Venom.

Of its weekend total, £8.56m ($10.8m) of Spider-Man Far From Home’s profit came screenings at 620 Imax screens.

The superhero adventure will open in the rest of the world this weekend, save for Italy.

According to Variety, the North American box office is pacing almost 10% behind last year.

SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME CONFIRMS MIND-BLOWING IRON MAN THEORY

Deadline said: “We hear tracking demos for Far From Home are on par with Captain America: Civil War ($179.1m).

“Of course, Far From Home is skewing more male, with older females over 25 the lower demo — but even that is super strong, we hear.

“The first Spider-Man: Homecoming, a team-up with Sony and Disney’s MCU characters, opened to $117m over the July 7 to 9, 2017 weekend, and reps Sony’s second-highest domestic opening of all-time, behind 2007’s Spider-Man 3 ($151.1m).”

Spider-Man: Far From Home is now playing in cinemas.
