Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker NEW trailer coming THIS month?

Excitement is building for the final instalment in the Skywalker saga. With just six months to go until 42 years of storytelling comes to a grand finale, the wait is almost unbearable. Fans looking for clues to what will happen know the next main trailer will come laden with the good stuff. But will it really come out in the third weekend in July? 

Major sites had reported that Lucasfilm would take a slot at San Diego ComicCon, taking place from July 18-21 this year.

This seemed unusual and did not fit the pattern for the modern era Star Wars films so far.

But with the Disney D23 expo in August expected to focus on the upcoming launch of the Disney+ streaming platform, the Lucasfilm presence there will logically centre on The Mandalorian, the Star Wars flagship TV series.

So, hopes were high for a July trailer at SDCC. 

However, Inverse earlier reported: “We already know Star Wars will have a minimal presence at San Diego Comic-Con this year.”

SDCC 2019 still has not released its timetable but a blog devoted to the biggest expo in the US reported Lucasfilm would NOT be present at all.

The official listings for D23 so far are also vague with the Friday focussed on Disney+ and Saturday on all upcoming films from Disney, Pixar Marvel and Lucasfilm, with Sunday for Disney parks.

So far the Saturday official listing just promises: “As always, attendees will be treated to exclusive footage, special guest appearances, and more!”

Inverse added: “If any (Star Wars 9) footage gets shown at D23, however, it’ll be minimal. For The Last Jedi, the only thing that came out of D23 was a behind-the-scenes video.”

Even if some form of trailer is shown it would most likely be in a closed room with no recording permitted.

The bad news for fans is that The Rise of Skywalker is looking increasingly certain to hold back any main trailer until October.

This was the pattern before and after some false alarms it looks set to be the same again.

The wait is long for this one.
