The rarely seen tiaras owned by the British Royal Family

The British Royal Family has an extraordinary collection of breathtaking tiaras which are often seen adorning royal brides on their wedding day.

Senior royals also sport the exquisite headwear for formal white tie events or important royal engagements such as State banquets and ceremonial events.

According to the Court Jeweller blog, the first tiara the Queen wore in public was Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara, and that was on her wedding day in 1947.

However, Her Majesty received the Cartier Halo Tiara for her eighteenth birthday as a gift from her mother, so it’s likely she wore that one before her wedding to Prince Philip.

The beautiful tiara, which is sometimes refereed to as the Scroll Tiara, was rarely worn by the Queen but was often loaned to her younger sister Princess Margaret for special occasions.

It was famously worn by Kate Middleton when she married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

Last year, Meghan Markle opted for the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara for her Windsor Castle wedding.

The beautiful tiara originally featured a sapphire centrepiece when it was made by Gerrard for the Queen’s grandmother in 1925.

It was loaned to the Duchess of Sussex by the Queen for her wedding to her grandson Prince Harry in May 2018.

Other notable tiaras include the Strathmore Rose Tiara, which was given to the Queen Mother when she married the Duke of York in 1923.

And the Greville Tiara which is on long-term loan to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
