Star Wars Last Jedi to contain surprise tribute to THIS film, director confirms
The film-maker, who has written and helmed Episode VIII in the saga, confirmed on Twitter that there’ll be a “tiny” nod to one of his little-known previous hits.
The film in question is Brick, a low-budget neo-noir mystery released in 2006.
Made on a budget of less than half a million and featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it scored positive reviews and took almost $4 million at the box office.
Johnson was asked on Twitter by a fan: “@rianjohnson Is there any kind of nod to Looper or Brick in The Last Jedi? Even if it’s a little nod?”
He replied: “There is a tiny tiny tiny Brick nod. Tiny.”
Fans began speculating what it could be, with one joking: “Is it literally a brick?!”
Another suggested: “Rey runs behind a rock, takes off her boots and trips Kylo Ren. I got you, Rian.”
Others wondered if Gordon-Levitt could have a cameo, perhaps as another stormtrooper.
Elsewhere in Last Jedi news, Mark Hamill appeared to confirm that Luke Skywalker will have a lightsaber battle at some point in the new film.
Speaking to Fandango, he said: “You’ve heard, he says ‘It’s time for the Jedi to end’.
“I’m sure in his view of the lightsaber, the weapon of choice, has changed as well.”
When the interviewer then asked what it was like to wield the iconic weapon again, Hamill said: “It’s frightening!”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on December 14.
