Cats NEW trailer: Jennifer Hudson belts out Memory with Judi Dench and Taylor Swift

The sets, choreography and costumes look mind-blowing, but it is the human transformations that are exceptional. The trailer made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con this evening and there was no pussyfooting around as it immediately followed online.

After yesterday’s fascinating glimpse behind the scenes, this finally gives fans a glorious glimpse into how director Tom Hooper will bring the iconic show to the big screen.

Dame Judi Dench will take on a cheeky gender swap as Old Deuteronomy, wth Swift as Bombalurina and Hudson as the tragic faded beauty Grizabella.

The trailer also reveals James Corden as Buster Jones and Idris Elba as Macavity.

The A-listers don’t stop there with the tantalising prospect of Ray Winstone as Growltiger, Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger and Rebel Wilson as Jennanydots.

Based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, the original production ran for 21 years and won Olivier and Tony Awards. It has subsequently be seen by over 81 million people in over 50 countries.

Dench looks mesmerising in her role, although fans will know she was the very original Grizabella when the show was first created. Only a last-minute injury prevented her from taking the stage and Elaine Paige stepped in and made the role her own.

Cats will be the big family film this Christmas, sharpening its claws to take on the mighty Star Wars franchise, when the final film is released the same week.
