Wearing a lace low-cut number by British designer Sarah Burton, Kate Middleton sure looked the part on her 2011 wedding day to Prince William. Seven years later, Meghan Markle opted for a classy, asymmetrical gown by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, as she said ‘I do’ to Prince Harry. But which royal rocked their wedding dress the best? An online vote has taken place on The Tylt – a site for polls and surveys – and one of the royal ladies came out on top, with 74.9 per cent of voters choosing her dress.

While there’s no denying both ladies looked great, the majority of the public preferred Kate’s dress.

Commenting on the results, one fan wrote; “I still like Kate’s dress the most.”

“Kate’s dress will forever be my favourite dress,’ another added, sharing a collage of photos from Kate’s big day.

“If I had to choose, I do prefer Kate’s wedding dress over Di and Meghan’s. But all three hold up longerm,” a third wrote.

Although Meghan’s dress only received 25.1 per cent of the votes, some did prefer the simplicity of her off-the-shoulder gown.

“I don’t care what you all say I loved Meghan’s dress. It was simple, classy and beautiful,” one said.

“Meghan’s wedding dress was so beautiful! I mean less is more like they always say but the simple elegance of it was so captivating. And I love that she pulled it off well.

“Not many can pull off the boatneck dress. It was the type of dress that grows on you every time you saw it,” another wrote.

The vote comes after Express.co.uk revealed how Kate used a trick at her wedding to give a key detail about her royal role.

Kate and William got married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011.

Prince William is second in line to the throne and it is likely he will one day become King, which would give Kate the important task of being Queen Consort.

At her wedding, Kate chose to wear a design by Sarah Burton from the fashion house, Alexander McQueen.

Although she ensured the custom gown had a modern twist, Kate wanted her dress to have some traditional elements which linked to her future important role within the family.

The Victorian style dress had a fitted lace bodice and full skirt and she paired the look with a tiara from the royal collection.

When Kate married the future King, she opted for the Cartier Halo tiara which had lots of history. The wedding tiara chosen by the Duchess had been in the family since it was created in 1936.

“In choosing the Cartier Halo tiara for her wedding, Kate established a new generation of royals,” Tobias Kormind, Managing Director of 77Diamonds.com told Express.co.uk.
