Deepika Padukone: xXx star reveals SURPRISING way she prepared for new movie
The actress, most recognisable outside of her Bollywood superstardom for her work in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, recently finished one movie just a day before she had to begin another.
She is starring as an acid-attack survivor in Chhapaak, which she is also producing. The movie tells the story of real-life hero Laxmi Aggarwal.
Recently it wrapped up its principle photography in Mumbai, and she had to depart for London the next day to begin work on ’83.
The latter is about India’s Cricket World Cup win, and she plays Romi Dev – opposite her real husband Ranveer Singh.
Padukone told DNA that it was housework that enabled her to switch mindsets so quickly.
“I’ve always believed that a character never really leaves your system entirely,” India Today quotes her as saying.
“This time around, I took to cleaning and organising things around my home to help me cope with switching from Laxmi to Romi Dev in ’83.
“It helped me de-stress and clear my mind of any clutter.”
A source added: “Deepika plays an intense character in Chhapaak, where she had to go deep into the life of Laxmi.
“Romi is completely different, so she had to let go of the emotional journey of the former and have a clean slate before starting her next shoot.”
Padukone has also been rumoured to star in the remake of Satte Pe Satte – an adaptation of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
However, subsequent reports have said that it’s Katrina Kaif who’ll be stepping up to the plate.
Padukone recently spoke out about her role in ’83 – revealing the personal affinity she feels with her character.
“I play the role of Romi Dev, wife of Kapil Dev in the movie and she was instrumental in Kapil Dev’s success, especially when he was the captain,” the star told Asian Age.
“She was part of the support system and I feel connected to that.
“I always feel that in an athlete’s life the wife and family sacrifice a lot of their own dreams to support the vision of the athlete, the goals that they set and they end up sacrificing their own career. I have seen it in my own family.”
She elaborated: “My mother had been supportive to my father in his career. I think to see the human side, to see what an important role family play in success of athlete, I took up this role.”
