Star Wars 9: Palpatine's shock link to Rey’s parents? ‘She’ll make HORRIFYING discovery’
The Rise of Skywalker is the final movie in the Star Wars Skywalker saga, and it’ll also bring the current sequel trilogy to a close.
Plot details are still incredibly sparse, but a new alleged leak – which is completely unverified and should be treated with caution for the time being – has claimed to explain how the returning Palpatine factors in.
With more detail on Rey’s parents also due, this particular rumour also explains a little more about her father.
Mike Zeroh, a popular Star Wars YouTuber, made the allegations in a new video post, although he does not cite his sources.
He claims a scene will see “Rey travelling on her speeder – approaching a large structure built into a canyon, said to once be the home of her father”.
He adds that she “goes inside looking for clues about her father’s past”, specifically to a “basement of a hidden base where her father kept many secrets locked away.
“One of which is an audio transmission of Darth Sideous slash Palpatine talking inside of the cloning chamber room, where Rey’s father was the one responsible for the clones within the Jakku laboratory.”
Zeroh elaborates: “During the battle of Jakku, Luke Skywalker destroyed all of the clones but one – and that one remained, where Palpatine’s spirit was able to enter into his own clone body.
“However, it’s said that the clone was faulty and, in the transmission that Rey listens to, Palpatine says he must die and is able to concentrate with the Force to let himself perish – and the spirit exits, waiting for a Dark Side user host.
“The clone body was Palpatine’s trial run to eternal life just some years after the Battle of Endor.”
If this all seems a little complicated and convoluted for a mainstream saga movie, perhaps that’s a sign that this won’t come to fruition – but all the same, if Palpatine is going to make a return despite meeting a very definite death in Return of the Jedi, maybe the science of clone and host bodies is where JJ Abrams will have to go.
Zeroh claimed: “This is JJ’s way of providing a callback to the Dark Empire comics, where Palpatine kills himself in front of Luke, where his actual spirit exits his clone body.”
We have a little while to go yet before we get answers: Rise of Skywalker is out in December.
In the meantime, more details are expected at D23 later this month – with some rumours even suggesting a new trailer could be served up.
That said, it’s worth noting that The Last Jedi’s second trailer did not land until October in 2017 – and all fans got at D23 was a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
