Kate Middleton wedding: How the royal’s dress was kept secret – designer reveals THIS

Back in 2011, Kate Middleton and Prince William said “I do” at Westminster Abbey. Both the bride and groom had the support of their family and sibling, with Prince Harry as William’s best man and Pippa Middleton as Kate’s maid of honour. Dressed in their army uniforms, Prince William and best man Prince Harry arrived together to Westminster Abbey. Maid-of-honour Pippa followed behind with the page boys and flower girls, who included Eliza Lopes, the daughter of William and Harry’s stepsister. Then arrived Kate in the back of a Rolls Royce Phantom VI with her dad michael Middleton.

As she stepped out of the vehicle, fans got the first look at her gorgeous gown.

Designed by Sarah Burton, creative director at Alexander McQueen, Kate looked absolutely stunning in the laced sleeved bridal gown, complete with a soft lace veil.

As they entered the church, Pippa held the nine-foot train.

So how was the show stopping kept secret up until the big day?

Dressmaker Mandy Ewing recently revealed the lengths to which the team had to go to to keep the dress under wraps.

“We knew who it was for, but it was very secret – we had net curtains up and cleaners were not allowed into the room and the code on the door was changed,” she explained after Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited the Royal School of Needlework in November 2017.

“The dress was all in the news, but nobody knew who was doing it. When you’re working on it you just focus on it and try not to think about what’s in the news. But it was an exciting event and everybody loved working on it – it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.” she added.

The classic style is said to have been inspired by fellow royal Sophie Countess of Wessex’s dress from her 1999 wedding to the Queen’s son Edward.

On her wedding day, Sophie opted for a simple dress created by the London-based designer, Samantha Shaw.

The classic dress featured a ivory silk and organza coat-style dress which has crepe and tulle.

The dress was hand-dyed and had a fitted bodice which nipped in at the waist and featured a deep V-neck.

The stunning gown also had long sleeves which flared out into fluted cuffs.

Sophie’s elegant gown may have inspired Kate’s dress, which had a similar fitted bodice which pulled in at the waist and also featured long sleeves, although Kate’s were lace.

Kate’s dress featured lace panelling at the top which also had a V-neck which could show how she may have been inspired by the Countess.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s long train was also similar to Sophie’s.
