Meghan V Kate: ‘Royals are worlds apart’ – Expert reveals how their style differs
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton both became members of the Royal Family following their marriages to the Queen’s grandsons Harry, 34, and William, 37. Kate married William in 2011, and seven years later, Meghan and Harry said “I do.” They are also mothers. Kate and William have three children – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one. Meanwhile Harry and Meghan welcomed their first son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on 6 May. As well as this, the ladies carry out similar roles within the Royal Family.
On the official website, Kate’s bio reads: “As well as undertaking royal duties in support of The Queen, both in the UK and overseas, The Duchess devotes her time to supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life.”
Meghan is describe similarly with the Duchess “devoting her time to supporting a number of charities and organisations.”
But while the women appear to have a lot in common, do they share a similar taste in fashion?
Fashion stylist Melita Latham looked at some of their most recent outfits, and told Express.co.uk that when it comes to fashion, Meghan and Kate are “worlds apart.”
Last month, the two royals attended Wimbledon. On day one, Kate wore a corn-flour blue dress, which she teamed with a pair of beige court heels. Meanwhile, Meghan opted for a white blazer and a pair of jeans.
The ladies eventually attended the event together, but their outfits couldn’t have been more different.
While Kate wore a bottle green dress, Meghan went for a pleated floral skirt with a white shirt.
Melita explained: “Kate clearly followed Wimbledon etiquette with her stunning Dolce and Gabanna green dress which she has previously worn for another royal duty. Kate is not afraid to recycle her outfits.
“Meghan on the other hand wore a blazer and jeans. This was clearly a statement that rules are for breaking, and I am here to have a good time and not worry about how the world perceives me today! Although, Meghan still looks classy in whatever she wears.”
The pair were recently pictured watching their husbands play polo at a charity match in Berkshire.
For the event, Kate wore a pink floral dress, which was perfect for the summers day.
Meghan – who was making her first public appearance on her own with her son – dressed down in a khaki oversized dress, which Melita revealed was a “strong statement.”
She continued: “Meghan also made a strong statement with her Khaki dress at a recent polo event. This is a mum telling the world that Baby Archie is her priority. I feel her statement says ‘I can wear this cool, airy, flowing, relaxed dress because I have another duty today – that’s being a mum. I still look good, but I am comfortable’.”
Unlike Meghan, Melita believes we rarely see Kate letting her hair down in public.
She said: “Kate had an equally relaxed approach at the polo match with her wedges and floral dress, but still keeping in mind her duties as a royal. Rarely do we see Kate at public events really let her hair down with casual attire, unlike Meghan.”
For the Queen’s birthday, both royals attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony. While Kate rocked a bright yellow suit and matching head piece, Meghan kept it low-key in a navy item.
“The Trooping of the Colour suits they both wore complemented each of them so well,” Melita said.
“Kate loves Alexandra McQueen and she looked fabulous and zesty. Meghan looked sleek and stunning too in her navy suit. They both had flawless complexions with their beautiful brunette hairs tied back.”
Meghan recently started wearing a small gold signet ring, which an expert revealed could give a nod to the Royal Family.
Claire Adler, luxury public relations consultant and jewellery specialist, revealed the ring’s British links, saying: “Meghan is wearing the Durga ring by Pippa Small who has a shop in Notting Hill’s fashionable Westbourne Grove and who was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2013 for her ethical jewellery and charity work.”
