Deepika Padukone reveals how the xXx star's MARRIAGE will affect her new film
Padukone will be starring on-screen with her husband in the Kabir Khan drama. It tells the true story of how India won the 1983 Prudential Cup at Lords. It was India’s first time in the final, where the team dramatically defeated the West Indies. Padukone’s husband will be playing national sporting hero Kapil Dev, known as the Haryana Hurricane, while she takes on a role very close to home.
Padukone will be playing Dev’s wife, Romi.
The Bollywood superstar couple have played on-screen lovers before, although never with a happy ending.
This time, they are playing real-life characters and Padukone has spoken about how her own relationship will impact of the movie, as well as her reaction to meeting Romi Dev, herself.
The actress possibly coined the most ‘woke’ and modern phrase for her relationship since Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous “conscious uncoupling’ moment.
Padukone said: “As actors, you don’t think about your personal equations while doing a film. You are fully focused on the moment and the character. You cease to exist as the person you are and only live the character that you are playing. Our personal equation won’t have any role to play this film.”
While it’s unlikely to catch on as a way to describe anyone’s relationship any time soon, her chemistry with Singh on-screen and off is undeniable.
Singh posted a funny video showing Padukone spanking her husband with a cricket bat, accompanied by the tongue in cheek comment “Story of my life.”
His wife was rather more serious when she spoke of the woman she will be playing on the big screen.
Padukone said of Romi Dev: “I feel so inspired every time I meet her. She has an extremely refreshing energy, is intelligent, knowledgeable and funny.
“I like her candour. Romiji is someone who is extremely honest and when she needs to express herself, she does it with a lot of dignity. I like the way she conducts herself, with so much grace.”
Kapil Dev is widely regarded as one of India’s greatest cricketers of all time, one of world cricket’s all-time greatest all-rounders and was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.
