Breaking Bad movie theory: Is THIS how Saul Goodman will reunite with Jesse in El Camino?

In just over a month, fans will find out what happened to Jesse Pinkman after he escaped in the series’ final episode. El Camino will follow the meth cook as a fugitive and no doubt will also see the return of other Breaking Bad characters. Already the first teaser saw the return of Jesse’s friend Skinny Pete and it seems almost certain that Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman will be back. The crooked lawyer already has his own prequel series in Better Call Saul, one that also features flash-forwards of what happened to the man formerly known as Jimmy McGill after Breaking Bad ended.

Breaking Bad fans will remember that once Heisenberg’s true identity as Walter White was known to the police and the DEA, Saul realised that they’d soon be after him too as a former associate of the criminal.

The lawyer got in touch with the disappearer known as Ed, who organised for Saul to be relocated to Nebraska under the new identity of Gene Taković.

Growing a moustache and wearing big glasses, Saul began a new life working at Cinnabon in the Cottonwood Mall of Omaha, Nebraska.

As mentioned fans have seen moments of his life after Breaking Bad in Better Call Saul’s flash-forwards, as he tries his best to avoid police detection.

This puts Saul in a unique position narratively, one that’s identical to where we will find Jesse at the beginning of El Camino.

Both characters are on the run from the law and no doubt Jesse, who escaped in a car in final Breaking Bad episode Felina, will be wanting to get as far away from Albuquerque, New Mexico as he possibly can.

El Camino’s teaser and poster reveal very little of the film’s plot, but the latter does emphasise a road trip, with Jesse in his getaway car.

Now Omaha is almost 900 miles away from Albuquerque, so we wouldn’t put it past Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan to take Jesse in the direction of Saul.

With both men as fugitives, surely some sort of team-up could be involved between the pair.

And while Saul is yet to be confirmed for El Camino, Odenkirk did have prior knowledge of the project before its announcement, which heavily suggests his involvement.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Odenkirk said: “‘I don’t know what people know and don’t know.

“I find it hard to believe you don’t know it was shot. They did it.

“You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is.

“They’ve done an amazing job of keeping it a secret.”

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie streams on Netflix on October 11, 2019.
