Melania Trump pays her respects on anniversary of 9/11 attacks in sombre black dress

Melania Trump, 49, stood on the lawn of the White House with Donald Trump to mark the anniversary of the shocking 9/11 terror attacks in the USA. The attacks took place 18 years ago today, and rocked the world. The First Lady made sure to look impeccable for the occassion, and wore a black shirt dress which came to the knee. She added a thick black crocodile skin belt to accentuate her waist.

Mum-of-one Melania kept her legs bare, opting not to wear tights with the ensemble.

She finished the look with a pair of simple black court shoes.

Melania wore her light brown hair loose over her shoulders, with ends lightly curled.

Unusually, Melania did opt for heavy black smoked eyeshadow – usually she sticks to simple eye makeup.

Her huge engagement ring could be seen on her finger, as well as another ring on her other hand, but she did not appear to be wearing any other jewellery.

After their appearance on the lawn President Trump attended a memorial ceremony at the Pentagon, the US Department of Defense headquarters, where 184 people died. Melania joined him there.

Melania has been busy back at work since her summer break, joining Donald at the G7 summit in Biarritz at the end of August.

The First Lady wore a host of chic outfits during the weekend, which she spent being hosted by Brigitte Macron, the French President’s wife.

Giving a nod to the country she was heading to, Melania wore Chanel as she left for France.

She then represented the USA in a vibrant yellow Calvin Klein dress as she stepped off the plane with Donald.

Languages

Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.

This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.

Religion

After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.

She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka last year.

Career

Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.

Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.

Family

Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.

She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.

Charity

On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.

There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
