Avengers spoilers: The heartbreaking revelation about Tony Stark death you didn’t know
Avengers: Endgame was full of twists and turns – with fans torn as they waved goodbye to some of their favourite characters. Tony Stark, of course, was a real struggle for many, as they knew he would never return to the franchise as he is now. But Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has revealed an even more devastating truth.
Robert Downey Jr made sure his performance as Tony Stark was a vivid and real as possible – and so improvisation was something used regularly.
He used “I love you 3000” from his own life and insulted Chris Evans’ Captain America with a harsh ad lib: “No trust, liar.”
But it turns out this is not where the ad libs stopped, as Tom Holland revealed.
He said the entire scene where he, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr are together, as Iron Man dies, was totally unscripted.
He told Indiewire: “It was interesting because, when we shot that scene with Robert there was no real script, at all.
“It was just Kevin Feige, the two Russo brothers, myself, Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle.
“They kind of brought us to set, they kind of told us what was going to happen, or what they wanted to happen and then we sort of just improvised if I can remember correctly.
“It was really, really interesting way to shoot such a kind of pivotal scene of the movie, but it was a really emotional day and I mean looking back on it now it was maybe the craziest day on set you know.
“But it was really amazing and turned out to be a fantastic scene.”
Naturally, it would have been a tough scene for the young star, as he could not prepare his lines or remember Robert Downey Jr’s to steel himself for such an emotional moment.
The scene is mostly dialogue free, but raw emotion is hard to ignore.
It comes as Tony Stark takes the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, killing Thanos and his army.
But the gauntlet and the affect of the stones are too strong, and the power kills Tony.
As this happens, he is surrounded by his closest family, Pepper Potts, Peter Parker and James Rhodes.
Tony does not speak, but Peter breaks down and weeps while Pepper tells him he can rest, as their family will survive thanks to him.
Tony’s death also plays a huge part in the following film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, as Peter is still dealing with his mentor’s death.
Happy Hogan, played by Jon Favreau, tries to comfort him and help him, as Peter tries to escape the difficult job of a superhero on a school trip around Europe with his friends.
But unfortunately for him, S.H.I.E.L.D. are not done with him yet and enlist his help to save the world, yet again… or so he thinks.
Avengers: Endgame is available on DVD and Blu-ray, while Spider-Man Far From Home is set to come out on these platforms soon
