Royal wedding: Which royal engagement ring is Princess Beatrice's most like?

Last week, Princess Eugenie posted a series of pictures of her older sister, Princess Beatrice, and her new fiance Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The three beautiful snaps of the loved-up couple also afforded everyone a glimpse of her shiny new engagement ring. In a statement, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement”

The happy pair added: “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.

“We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

The stunning diamond is thought to have been designed by Edoardo himself, in collaboration with renowned jewellery designer, Shaun Leane.

And for the eagle-eyed royal watchers among us, you may have noticed a striking similarity between Beatrice’s ring and another royal’s sparkler.

Alastair Smith, a ring expert and founder of Ringspo.com spoke to Express.co.uk about the Princess’ dazzling new ring design.

Mr Smith said: “The royal ring that Beatrice’s ring most closely resembles is the Queen’s, which is a three carat ‘old cut’ diamond set in a traditional claw setting in platinum with five smaller diamonds on each shoulder, giving a tapered appearance not dissimilar to the baguettes on either side of Beatrice’s ring.”

The Queen’s engagement ring is thought to feature gems from a diamond and aquamarine tiara, which belonged to Prince Philip’s grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg.

Mr Smith added: “Meghan Markle’s ring is also a three stone diamond ring, with the centre stone a 3.5 carat cushion cut, with two round brilliant diamonds on either side.”

Princess Beatrice is expected to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020.

Buckingham Palace announced their engagement late last week.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo became engaged on holiday in Italy earlier in September.

The Duke and Duchess of York said of the engagement: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.
