Queen and Adam Lambert: Singer reveals he's 'HUMBLED' in Freddie Mercury band shock

Earlier this year, Queen and Adam Lambert toured North America with their Rhapsody Tour. And as 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of Freddie Mercury’s band, the collaboration are back for a select few UK shows next year. Commenting on the accomplishments of the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, Lambert told Planet Rock: “Queen is a big family at this point. And I think that the success of the film exceeded every expectation.”

Lambert continued: “As each wave of success has happened, Brian and Roger have been so excited and so proud, and that’s been great to watch.

“I’ve been thrilled to be working with these guys from the get-go, and I’m incredibly grateful and incredibly humbled to continue with this band.

“Especially with this new chapter where’s there’s all this renewed pop culture relevance. 

“It’s very exciting to see them light up when the lights turn on.”

Queen and Freddie Mercury’s renewed popularity appears to be going from strength to strength.

Both topped John Lennon in a new UK poll of the most popular classic rock artists.

A few weeks ago, Lambert spoke out on his upcoming gigs with Queen on The Jonathan Ross show.

Asked by the host what it was like to take on iconic tracks as a stand-in for Freddie Mercury, the singer said: “Eight years.

“It’s such an honour to be up there with Brian May and Roger Taylor, to sing these incredible, iconic songs.

“To see audiences full of nostalgia, going through their youth. 

“It’s a dream come true.”

On filling Freddie’s shoes, Lambert said: “Yes, that’s why I wear giant platforms. Absolutely.

“I actually first heard about them through Wayne’s World.

“We left the movie theatre and I said, ‘Dad, what’s that song?’

“He pulled out some Queen albums from his collection, opened them up, I’m looking at Freddie and his black nail polish and his make-up, with all the guys, I thought, I like this guy, he plays dress up like I do.”

“It’s surreal, it really is. I auditioned for American Idol with Bohemian Rhapsody. I always think to myself, ‘What would have happened if I didn’t choose that song?’”
