Terminator Dark Fate reviews: What are fans and critics saying about new Terminator movie?
Terminator: Dark Fate is the sixth instalment of the Terminator franchise, acting as a direct sequel to Terminator 2. The movie will reunite Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Sarah Connor and T-800, the original Terminator. Along with the veteran stars, Edward Furlong will return as John Connor, Sarah’s son.
What do the critics think of Terminator: Dark Fate?
At present, there is little reaction out there to the latest Terminator movie, as the film will not be released in the US until November 1, and in the UK on October 23.
However, there are some people who have had a chance to see the film, and have taken to Twitter to share their verdicts.
One critic, Steven Weintraub of Collider, said: “#TerminatorDarkFate is easily the best Terminator movie since T2.
“Has some fantastic action and loved how the film features 3 female protagonists that all kick-a**.
“So awesome seeing Linda Hamilton back as Sarah Connor.”
Peter Sciretta, of Slash Film, said: “#TerminatorDarkFate is better than you think it’s going to be.
“Its (sic) trying hard to be the Force Awakens of Terminator movies, and mostly succeeds.
“But it’s lacking Cameron’s innovation, evolution and directing.
“Arnold is fantastic, the best of his post T2 Terminator appearances.”
Many critics have particularly spoken out about Hamilton’s performance, hailing her return to the franchise.
Mike Ryan of Uproxx said: “I was skeptical of TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. Thought the trailers were not great.
“But I would up enjoying it quite a bit, and the difference maker (vs the other post T2 sequels) is Linda Hamilton.
“It’s always been HER story and Hamilton adds the needed weight here.”
He added: “Honestly, without Linda Hamilton, not sure it works.
“But now watching her and Arnold together on screen again, it’s kind of crazy they ever tried to make these movies without literally the main character.”
Matt Singer, of ScreenCrush, added: “TERMINATOR’s thought of as Arnold’s franchise.
“DARK FATE makes it clear he wasn’t the key ingredient that made it work. It was Linda Hamilton.
“She’s incredible in this, and the movie’s very solid. (I recently defended all the TERMINATOR sequels, so make of this what you will.)”
The movie saw the return of James Cameron as a producer after he directed the first two Terminator films.
Since those two movies, the franchise was taken on by other directors and eventually, did not include Arnie or Linda Hamilton, and instead featured actors such as Emilia Clarke playing Sarah Connor, as well as various actors playing her son, John, including Christian Bale, Nick Stahl and Jason Clarke.
Now, the pair are back together and the film has clearly got fans excited about the future of the Terminator franchise.
Terminator: Dark Fate is out in cinemas on October 23
