Eclipse 2017: Bonnie Tyler replaces Justin Bieber at NUMBER ONE in US amid performance
In the midst of today’s solar eclipse, the 66-year-old will perform her iconic smash aboard a cruise ship.
And as Eclipse Mania takes over the world, the song has replaced Despacito – performed by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber – at the top of the digital rankings.
This means she’s also currently outselling former One Direction members Liam Payne and Niall Horan, now at Nos 3 and 5 respectively.
Tyler told TIME: “It’s going to be so exciting! It doesn’t happen very often, does it?
“The eclipse of the sun lasts 2 minutes and 40 minutes, I’m told, unlike my song. It had to be chopped about, because it was so long.”
Totality began in Oregon at 10:19 today – 18:19 in the UK.
Total Eclipse of the Heart was released in 1983 and has worldwide sales in excess of 6 million copies.
It hit No1 in the UK and US at the time, returning to the UK charts in 2008 briefly at No58.
The track has since been covered by several artists, including Westlife and Nicki French.
