Doctor Sleep is soon to be released in cinemas, not long after the second part of Stephen King’s IT was also shown to the world. Doctor Sleep is effectively the second part of The Shining, as it shows how young Danny Torrance is coping years later. But when will fans get the chance to watch it?

When is Doctor Sleep released in cinemas?

Doctor Sleep is released in cinemas on the spookiest night of the year – Halloween – which is October 31.

Some fans will sadly have to wait a little bit longer before they can watch the film, with the movie coming out in most countries from November 1.

The USA will get the movie slightly later on November 9.

While some other European and Asian countries will have to wait as late as November 29.

What is Doctor Sleep about?

According to Warner Bros, the studio behind the movie, the synopsis reads: “Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) has fought to find some semblance of peace.

“But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra (Kyliegh Curran), a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the ‘shine.’

“Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

“Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose.

“Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.”

How long is Doctor Sleep?

Doctor Sleep is a fairly long watch, with a running time of 151 minutes.

This equals to around just more than two and a half hours, meaning this is quite a watch for fans.

Doctor Sleep is shorter than the most recent Stephen King adaptation to hit our screens, IT: Chapter Two, which came in at a staggering 169 minutes.

The first IT movie was shorter than both of these, coming in at 135 minutes.

Doctor Sleep’s predecessor, The Shining, is a little more complicated, as various different cuts were released.

The European cut was shorter than both these films, coming in at 119 minutes.

However, the original movie was 146 minutes, meaning the original version of The Shining comes in third longest of our group.

Needless to say, however, Doctor Sleep is necessary viewing for Stephen King fans.

Doctor Sleep is out on October 31
