Marvel crossover: Could Deadpool and Fantastic Four join forces? Expert speaks out
Marvel Studios is known for bringing together some of the most epic superheroes in comic books. The Avengers is an amazing crime-fighting team, but there is always scope for lesser known heroes to join up with main stars. As Phase 4 is soon to begin – could there be a Deadpool crossover with Fantastic Four?
There have been reports of a potential collaboration between some unlikely heroes – Deadpool and Fantastic Four – in the upcoming Marvel cinematic slate.
While no official reports from the studio have confirmed whether the two forces will join – or even when their standalone movies will surface – it turns out this has been attempted once before.
Tim Miller, who directed the first Deadpool movie, left Deadpool 2 reportedly after having creative differences with the franchise star, Ryan Reynolds.
One of the things he was hoping to do, according to The Playlist, was to create a crossover between Deadpool and one of the Fantastic Four’s beloved members: The Thing.
Miller said he got permission from 20th Century Fox to use The Thing in Deadpool 2, and was hoping to feature the character in the movie’s third act battle between Deadpool and Juggernaut.
However, the idea was left out and after he quit the movie, the script was reworked to remove this, along with more character development for Vanessa (played by Morena Baccarin.)
Now a comic book expert, Professor Chris Murray, has exclusively revealed to Express.co.uk his views on a potential crossover between the two hero legends.
When asked about a potential crossover between Deadpool and Fantastic Four, he said: “Can’t think of characters more diametrically opposed, so yeah, bring it on.
“It would have to play off of Deadpool’s R rating and Fantastic Four’s image as the first family of superhero comics, who have no need for that R rating.
“Deadpool without the R rating is pointless. This is why this probably won’t happen.”
While a crossover of this type seems to impress the UK’s only comic book prof, clearly it seems unlikely as the certification of the two heroes are pretty far apart.
While speaking about crossovers, Professor Murray also shared some other great crossovers which have existed in comics, and others which would be fantastic to see.
He said: “Captain America and Wolverine have had some good crossovers. Spider-Man and Daredevil too.
“I would also like to see Grant Morrison’s Marvel Boy meet Spider-Man and Captain Marvel.
“That would have a lot of potential for the kind of thing Marvel does best – superheroes butting heads.
“In terms of major villains I would love to see Dr Doom. That’s a role just waiting for a great character actor to bring to life!
“And Galactus done right would be something to see!”
Dr Doom is usually seen as the arch nemesis of the Fantastic Four, however he has also come up against Spider-Man, Captain America The Avengers and the X-Men, to name a few.
The character has appeared in the 20th Century Fox Fantastic Four movies, but with none of those movies quite doing justice to their heroes, it would definitely be something to see to have him rebooted.
Galactus, who was cinematically introduced alongside the Fantastic Four in the 2007 movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, is also known as an opponent of the Fantastic Four.
Again, as this movie failed to really bring the franchise forward, Galactus could come back with a vengeance in later films – and hopefully be done in a new way.
With Disney’s acquisition of Fox, these movies now sit under the MCU banner, meaning a touch from Kevin Feige may fix any issues from previous incarnations.
