Reese Witherspoon teases incredible reunion for long-awaited Legally Blonde 3

Reese Witherspoon, who is set to appear on The Graham Norton Show tonight, secured her place in the legendary chick flick hall of fame by playing sorority girl turned aspiring lawyer Elle Woods in 2001’s Legally Blonde. Two years later, Elle returned in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, ready to take on Washington DC in a bid to pass a bill banning animal testing, sparked by a search for her beloved Chihuahua Bruiser’s birth mother finding her being held in a lab.

Now, Witherspoon has teased details about the potential third movie in an interview with ET.

When it comes to which of her fellow cast mates could come back for the sequel, she had a heavyweight list in mind.

“I love Jennifer Coolidge and Luke Wilson and Selma Blair and so there’s so many great characters that people love,” she said.

“If we end up doing it, hopefully they end up all being there.”

However, Witherspoon was careful to warn fans Legally Blonde wasn’t yet a definite.

“It’s just a development project right now, so we’ll see,” she warned.

But at least, if Elle does come back to the silver screen, she could be accompanied by some of the films’ best-loved characters.

In the ‘00s, Blair played Elle’s original nemesis Vivian, the studious girl who had stolen her former fiancé Warner (played by Matthew Davis) when he decided he needed a more serious lawyer-type.

In a blaze of women-supporting-women glory, however, the pair soon made friends, with Vivian ditching the slimy Warner and teaming up with Elle.

Wilson, meanwhile, appeared as the supportive Emmett who, in the end, wound up as Elle’s loving boyfriend.

Not to be outshone, Coolidge put on a memorable performance as Elle’s best friend, the hapless and unlucky in love Paulette: manicurist and fellow dog-lover.

As it seems like Witherspoon has her sights set on reuniting the epic cast, could Legally Blonde 2’s Regina King reprise her role as Grace Rossiter? Sally Field back as Congresswoman Rudd?

Despite Witherspoon cautioning that the film is still not certain, it already has a release date: May 8, 2020.

She confirmed Elle was back with a brilliant teaser in June 2018, donning the iconic pink sparkly bikini for an Instagram video captioned: “It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3.”

The actress previously told ET: “It’s gonna be so much fun! I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters.

“I got so excited just in the meeting,” she added. “I was like, ‘This is gonna be good.’”

The third movie is set for release 19 years after the original, but Witherspoon has kept details of where Elle’s life will have taken her under under wraps for now.

Wilson, however, seems as keen to return to the cast as she is to have him back, telling the publication he would “definitely be up for it”.

“I can’t imagine anything that would be more fun,” he added.

Elsewhere, Witherspoon will appear on tonight’s Graham Norton Show alongside Jennifer Aniston to talk about their upcoming Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.

The Graham Norton Show airs tonight at 10.35pm on BBC One.
