Avengers Endgame would be DAMAGED if Old Captain America returned to MCU, say writers

Avengers Endgame concluded with Captain America returning the Infinity Stones to the past but deciding to stay there. Steve Rogers won the ending he deserved, back in the 1940s with Peggy Carter. And we could see his satisfaction and sense of peace, as spoke to Falcon as an old man in that scene in 2023.

Of course, going forwards in the MCU, Captain America is very much still alive.

So could Chris Evans cameo as old Steve in future instalments of Marvel Phase 4?

Well, Captain America and Avengers Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely feel such a move would damage the Marvel epic’s ending for Steve Rogers.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Christopher Markus said: “I also don’t want to.

“I love writing for Cap, I love Evans. But I really feel, much like Tony, we got them to a place where they don’t need to do it anymore. I’d hate to gin up something hokey to get them back.”

While Stephen McFeely spoke of how a Captain America return could hurt Avengers Endgame.

He added: “I do worry that if they do stuff like that, it’ll ding Endgame in the rearview mirror.

“This is such an important and such an interesting moment in movies, because a very successful studio just put their tools down.”

Meanwhile, McFeely has also revealed there was an Iron Man and Bucky scene that was cut from the script, one that he wanted to remain.

He said: “I will say, there was a moment I really liked.

“I thought we really needed it, but we never shot it.

“It was Winter Soldier saving Tony or Pepper on the battlefield, and then having a moment with Tony where he’s sort of forgiven.”

McFeely added: “Or at least acknowledge that that guy’s not a murderer still. I mean, he’s murdering aliens, but…”

But as for the reconciliation pay off, he was unsure, adding: “Did Tony forgive Bucky? I don’t know.”

While Iron Man died before he could forgive The Winter Soldier, a popular fan theory argues that Tony Stark backed himself up as an AI before his sacrifice, so maybe there’s still time.

Although, our best bet is that Tony really is gone.

Avengers Endgame is out now on home release.
