Meghan Markle: The unexpected fashion rules that Duchess had to follow on Remembrance Day
Meghan Markle joined the Royal family in 2018 after she married Prince Harry in a record-breaking televised ceremony in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Although, Meghan has had her fair share of media attention during her acting days, long before the announcement of their courtship, the moment she married into the Royal family she stepped into a life of lavish and privilege, but isn’t without a cost.
Being part of the Royal family is said to be an incredible privilege, but many agree that it comes with a heavy cost of traditions and strict rules that royals must follow.
From rules such as adopting curtsies and bows when greeting the queen, to heirs traveling apart, and to the frowning upon public display of affection and even some rules affecting the clothes they wear and how they style them – being a royal is not always the glamour and fun people expect it to be.
This Sunday, Meghan along with the rest of the royals will have to follow some unusual and unexpected strict rules of traditions when they step out on the second Sunday in November, also known as, Remembrance Sunday. What are they?
If Meghan steps out holding a bag this Sunday, which could be unlikely given she didn’t have one today, keep an eye out on what arm it is perched on. As it has previously been reported that royal women hod their purse in their left hand.

Handbags are a key accessory used during royal outings, Queen Elizabeth II uses her handbag to communicate with her security privately, where a lot of meetings and greeting take place.
According to royal expert Myka Meier of Beaumont Etiquette, pointed out that you can always spot Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, 37, holding their purses on their left for the simple reason of leaving their right hand free to wave, shake hands and greet the public.
Although an important royal event on Sunday, don’t expect any of the royals to be stepping out in a fancy sparkly tiara. It has been revealed that tiaras are only worn to the most fanciest of royal engagements in the diary, typically first worn by brides on their wedding day.
Kate Middleton famously wore Queen Elizabeth’s Cartier Halo tiara for her wedding to Prince William in 2011 and in the past she has worn Princess Diana’s tiara to several other engagements.
Another thing to expect Meghan in on Sunday is a warm coat that she isn’t permitted to take off as it is deemed “unladylike” in public.
Hence why Kate Middleton is most of the time spotted in a coat to official events, the royal women are buttoned up.
Today, Meghan stepped out and kept on a warm looking Sentaer navy coat from the 2015 collection.
DON’T MISS
Just like today, expect to see Meghan and the rest of the Royal ladies in a formal skirt or dress for the commemoration on Sunday.
It has been reported that Queen Elizabeth prefers royal ladies to wear dresses and skirts over trousers, although, Meghan often does brake this protocol as the Duchess is a big fan of pantsuits and form-fitted trousers.
Famously Meghan chose to wear a black pantsuit – a colour also typically reserved for when a royal is in mourning – as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Croke Park, the home of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Ireland in July 2018.
However, Princess Diana was also broke this rule on several occasions as she was known fro enjoy wearing tuxedo suits to events, so whilst Her Majesty doesn’t like the style, it doesn’t seem to be completely prohibited.
When a royal is dressed for an official engagement, one thing to note is that they are dressed with modestly in mind. As royals are expected to dress modestly and respectfully in order to avoid any to racy or provocative pictures being taken of the royal.
Cleavage, for example, is deemed unacceptable by the Queen. Famously, Princess Diana used her bag or clutch to cover her chest when she stepped out of cars in order to preserve her modesty from the paparazzi awaiting her arrival.
There are no specific rules surrounding the wearing of a poppy, but the Queen wears her poppy on her left side, therefore, similarly to today, the royals will also be expected to embellish their chest on the left with a poppy.
Today, Meghan Markle made a heartfelt tribute to Britan’s heroes in an emotional moment with war veteran.
