Avengers Endgame Iron Man death: Robert Downey Jr reveals what HE wanted last line to be

There was only one possible future where the Avengers defeated Thanos. That’s what Doctor Strange revealed to Tony Stark in Avengers Infinity War. No wonder he traded the Time Stone for his survival, knowing full well that Iron Man would have to die later in Avengers Endgame.

During Endgame’s climactic battle, the Sorcerer Supreme prompted Tony to take action, as the billionaire genius managed to transfer the Infinity Stones to his Iron Man suit before Thanos could snap the universe away.

After Thanos said, “I am inevitable” and found the Stark gauntlet empty, he looked over to Tony with the six stones forming around his hand.

The superhero uttered, “And I am Iron Man”, before snapping his fingers and turning Thanos to dust at the sacrificial cost of his own life.

Marvel fans will know Avengers Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo struggled to come up with the dialogue before their editor Jeff Ford suggested the last line of the first Iron Man film.

They continued: “So the suspicious part about this scene is that if it was a prerecorded hologram how would Tony know that Morgan would be sitting on the sofa when Pepper and Morgan would be watching the hologram?

“And also how would he know the location from where the hologram was getting projected?”

“Not just the location but how would a 3D hologram make eye contact with a human.

“How would Tony know the locations before recording?”
