Meghan Markle: Did the Queen ban Duchess from wearing this tiara for her wedding?
Meghan Markle: She reportedly chose another tiara before the one she wore
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been married since 19 May 2018. Following in the steps of many royal brides, the Duchess picked the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara from the royal collection. However, insiders have claimed she chose it second after the Queen refused to allow her first choice.
On her big day, Meghan donned the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara which had been in the family for many years, Tobias Kormind, Managing Director of 77Diamonds.com, told Express.co.uk.
He said: “The tiara was made in 1932 for Prince Harry’s great great grandmother Queen Mary and specifically designed to accommodate the central detachable brooch of 10 round diamonds.
“The brooch was given to the then Princess Mary in 1893 by the County of Lincoln on her marriage to Prince George, Duke of York, the future King George V.
“The bandeau and the brooch were bequeathed to Her Majesty The Queen by Queen Mary when she died in 1953.”

The style seemed to suit the Duchess perfectly and she even adapted it to make it her own.
Tobias added: “Meghan Markle always looks impeccable and she took advantage of the flexible nature of this tiara’s design, placing a detachable diamond brooch at its centre instead of the sapphire it has been seen with in the past.
“This reflects her immaculate taste and a desire to personalise a look so it works perfectly for her, down to every last detail.”
However, Meghan reportedly wanted to wear a different tiara altogether, claimed an inside source who spoke to The Sun.

She is said to have requested the Vladimir tiara, which was given to Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin when she married Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia in 1897.
The jewel entered the Royal Family in 1921 when it was bought by Queen Mary before a set of 15 emeralds were attached.
A royal insider speculated why the Queen may have blocked Meghan wearing it down the aisle.
They told The Sun: “Meghan had her heart set on this tiara with emeralds and Prince Harry hit the roof when they were told it was impossible for her to wear it.
Meghan Markle: The Duchess married Prince Harry last year
“The provenance of the tiara could not be established. There were concerns it could have come from Russia originally.
“There was a very heated exchange that prompted the Queen to speak to Harry. She said, ‘Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me’.”
Most royal brides will borrow one of the Queen’s tiaras for their big day and it is important to know where the jewels came from.
A few months after Meghan and Harry wed, Princess Eugenie tied the knot wearing a similar design.
The royal chose the Margaret Greville’s Kokoshnik Emerald Tiara which originally belonged to Dame Margaret Greville.
Next year, Princess Beatrice will marry boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, after they announced their engagement in September 2019.
However, it is unlikely Princess Beatrice will wear the tiara Meghan originally chose as the origin of the jewel is still unlikely to be known.
The Queen has a large collection and Beatrice is sure to pick a stunning piece from that.
