Meghan Markle and Prince Harry snubbed as majority say they shouldn’t get public funding

The couple are currently taking a six week break from Royal duties after admitting they had struggled with the level of scrutiny their role attracted. According to the YouGov poll for the Sun on Sunday just 38 percent of the public think Harry and Meghan should get public funding.

This is contradicted by 44 percent who disagree, a majority once the 17 percent who said they don’t know are excluded.

However the public are more than happy to fund other senior royals.

A huge 71 percent think The Queen should receive public funding, with only 18 percent disagreeing.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also popular, with 60 percent thinking they should continue to receive money from the state.

Just 26 percent disagree with funding the royal couple, with another 14 percent unknown.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall attract more controversy, but still have considerable support.

In total 51 percent of the British public think they should continue to receive taxpayer funding, whilst 35 percent say they shouldn’t.

Individually the Duchess of Cambridge has considerably higher ratings than the Duchess of Sussex.

“The public don’t like being lectured on climate change by a couple who take private jets or being told they can’t see Archie’s christening when they’ve paid for Frogmore Cottage to be renovated.”

Seventy percent of Britons think the monarchy should be retained according to the survey.

Separately the Duke and Duchess of Sussex excited fans on Instagram by posting about receiving a “special surprise”.

The couple have garnered an impressive 9.9 million followers since they joined Instagram at the beginning of this year.

On Saturday they updated their fans after receiving a “special surprise” from the people who launched the Sussex’s initiative ‘Sussex Great Forest’.

The couple posted: “Huge thanks to the amazing group of people who have launched the grassroots Sussex Great Forest (@sussexgtforest) initiative.

“What a special surprise!”

The ’Sussex Great Forest’ initiative is an initiative to encourage the planting of trees around the world.

So far 4,010 trees have been planted as part of the campaign.

Meghan married Prince Harry in May 2018, making her a part of the British royal family.

She gave birth to the couples first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019.
