Borussia Dortmund are now open to selling prized asset Jadon Sancho in the January transfer window, per reports. Manchester United and Liverpool are both keen on the England international but it was thought any swoop would have to wait until the summer. But it is now claimed Sancho wants out of Germany now and that Dortmund aren’t opposed to his departure.

Sancho has established himself as one of the finest young talents on the continent, having managed 12 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga last season, which he has followed up with four goals and seven assists this term.

Such form has piqued the interest of major European clubs such as United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and it was thought such club would battle it out to secure Sancho next summer.

The Independent now report, however, that there have been a change in circumstances and that Dortmund are willing to offload the 19-year-old in January,

That is because the player was once again late to report for a team briefing and training sessions before Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Sancho was previously reprimanded for returning from England duty, being left out of a win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

He was also withdrawn after just 36 minutes of their 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich less than two weeks’ later, despite it only being 1-0 to the champions at the time, with Dortmund boss Lucien Favre claiming the forward’s performance was not up to scratch.

The teenager has played the full 90 minutes in both of their last two matches, a 3-3 draw with Paderborn and a 3-1 loss to Barcelona, supplying two goals and an assist in those games.

Yet despite his impressive output on the pitch, problems behind the scenes mean his future at the Signal Iduna Park is uncertain, claim the Independent.

Dortmund chiefs are considering handing Sancho a fine for his behaviour and are said to be furious with Sancho’s people trying to force a departure, despite an agreement between both parties than he will be able to leave for a suitable bid in 2020.

They have yet to identify a successor for Sancho but regardless, Dortmund are prepared to sell him in the winter window and will listen to offers, it is claimed.

The Yellow Blacks will seek a fee in excess of £100m having sold Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona for £135.5m two years ago, but may be forced to settle for less now they are open to selling him.

The player was not keen on joining United last year, given the Red Devils have no Champions League football, but his stance may have changed while Liverpool and City are also keeping abreast of developments, the latter likely doing so in case Leroy Sane pushes for a move to Bayern Munich.

Spain duo Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen, with the former boosted by Dortmund being keen to make right-back Achraf Hakimi’s move to Germany permanent.

ESPN FC pundit and Liverpool hero Steve Nicol warned Sancho to reject United earlier this month in favour of joining his former club instead.

“I think he’s crazy if he goes to Man United,” the Scot said.

“We’re talking about he’s struggling in a team that’s struggling [Dortmund] – Man United are going to be struggling for a couple of seasons, so I would stay away from there.

“Well if I was advising him, let me put it that way, I would like to see him at Liverpool.”

However, Nicol believes there is one key problem in the Merseyside outfit’s hopes of bringing the Englishman to Anfield.

“I think he would be fantastic,” Nicol added.

“If he could get his head round playing second fiddle to [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah, then that would be huge for Liverpool in my opinion.

“They could save the legs of both of those two and kind of swap the three of them in and out.

“But he’s not going to do that, he’s going to go somewhere to play. So I think Liverpool’s out.”

And Nicol thinks City will also find difficulties in trying to sign the attacker, declaring: “City, if he wants to play, a kind of a similar scenario to Liverpool.

“It would be great for him to be there, he’s going to win things as he would at Liverpool, but he’s probably not going to play as much as he wants.

“So I think that rules them out.”
