have more than halved their asking price for Christian Eriksen as the club are desperate to sell the midfielder in the January window, with one of several clubs interested in the player. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is now willing to consider a cut-price deal for Eriksen after he made it clear he has no interest in staying at the north London club.

Several teams are reportedly interested in the 27-year-old, including Manchester United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, as he is prepared to run down the final year of his deal with Spurs.

As it stands Eriksen is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January, but according to the Evening Standard, Levy is willing to consider offers of less than £40million in the upcoming window.

And while it would still be an expensive signing for any club, given they could get the player on a free transfer in just six months time, several teams could still be tempted by the reduced asking price.

The report claims that Spurs were prepared to sell Eriksen to United in August for £80m, although no deal was ultimately agreed.

Solskajer has relied on youngsters filling in the gaps and has even resorted to playing Fred in the middle of the park after Paul Pogba was sidelined with a long-term ankle injury.

However, Eriksen could be exactly the type of creative playmaker United have been missing this season.

Since joining Spurs from Ajax for £11.5m back in 2013, the Dane has so far scored 68 goals and provided 88 assists in 293 appearances in all competitions.

And United have struggled to score goals this campaign. They only have 21 league goals in 14 matches this season and currently sit 10th in the table.

In contrast league leaders Liverpool have found the back of the net 32 times in the same number of games, with second placed Manchester City leading the way with 43 goals in 15 matches.

It is understood Eriksen is looking for the right project when he leaves Tottenham.

And while new Spurs boss appears to have failed to convince the Denmark international to sign a new deal, he has reassured fans that Eriksen is still committed to helping the club.

“The important thing is that he’s committed with us so let’s not talk about his future, let’s not talk about what is going to happen,” Mourinho said.
