Kate Middleton news: Touching tribute Kate made to Princess Diana you might have missed
For one day every December, diplomats and ambassadors who are based in the UK are invited to the Queen’s house for a reception. The 2019 event marked the sixth attended by Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.
On the evening, Kate dazzled in a lengthy Alexander McQueen velvet gown.
The Duchess paired it with a sparkly pair of chandelier earrings and a matching necklace, thought to be items from the Queen’s personal collection of jewelry.
Kate also sported the blue sash of the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, which is a rank equivalent to a knight.
Eagle-eyed royal fans will also have spotted the Duchess wore the iconic Lover’s Knot Tiara.

Officially, the tiara belongs to the Queen, who has loaned the gorgeous piece to the Duchess.
The pearl headwear was a favourite of Princess Diana, who was frequently pictured wearing it at formal royal engagements.
The tiara was gifted to the Princess of Wales following her marriage to Prince Charles in 1981.
It is thought the tiara was initially offered to Diana to wear on the big day, however, she chose instead to wear the Spencer family tiara.

Following Diana and Charles’ divorce, the tiara was returned to the Queen.
The Queen herself had been gifted it following the death of her grandmother, Queen Mary, but later came to favour other tiaras over the Lover’s Knot.
The tiara is said to have come back into the spotlight in 2015, when Kate wore it at a Buckingham Palace reception.
Now it has been passed on to the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate has been spotted wearing it on a number of special, formal occasions.

Other members of the Royal Family joined Kate and William at the reception last week.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were also present and dressed up for the formal Palace event.
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were not in attendance, as they are currently on a break from royal engagements.
For the evening, the Queen donned a white gown with white netting detail by Angela Kelly.

The Queen paired the ensemble with white gloves and an emerald necklace.
For her tiara, the Queen chose the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara, known for its striking green jewels.
The tiara is thought to be the Queen’s personal favourite of her collection, and was designed by an unknown Russian craftsman.
The tiara consists of fifteen interlaces of thick, metal circles.
