James Bond: New 007 candidate Sam Heughan suffers MASSIVE blow in race to replace Craig
James Bond fans are still placing bets on who could step up to the plate as the new 007 when Daniel Craig departs the franchise after No Time To Die. For weeks now, Outlander actor Sam Heughan has dominated with bookies, his odds being cut to 5-1 by Ladbrokes at the start of November, putting him in pole position.
However, it looks as thought Heughan’s popularity with fans is fading, despite him still being the favourite for the new Bond.
So far this month, just six per cent of bets have been on the Scot, indicating a major drop in interest from punters.
In comparison, Tom Hardy has received 13 per cent, while the top picks seem to be Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, with a combined total of 40 per cent of all bets with Ladbrokes.
Hot on Heughan’s heels in the running to replace Craig are Richard Madden and Hiddleston, both priced at 5-1.

Meanwhile, Elba’s odds were slashed from 10-1 to just 6-1 this week after a surge of bets on the Luther star.
Also among the frontrunners are James Norton, who’s slipped to 7-1, Jack Lowden and Hardy on 8-1 and Chris Hemsworth, Jamie Bell and Michael Fassbender on 10-1.
Elsewhere, Heughan previously spoke out on the possibility of taking up the mantle as Bond.
Asked if he would want the part as the iconic spy, the Outlander star told STV: “I think any actor who says they wouldn’t would be lying.

“I think it’s time we had a Scottish Bond again,” he continued. “I think Ian Fleming had a good connection with Scotland and I believe James Bond was supposed to have been brought up in Scotland.”
Heughan conceded he’s up against some stiff competition when it comes to snagging Craig’s job once he steps down, saying: “I know I’ve got competition out there, so we’ll see what happens.”
Just a couple of months ago, he was a complete outsider, priced at 75-1, but he’s been holding on to the lead at 5-2 for several weeks.
Heughan clearly has his eye on the role, having previously auditioned before Craig landed the gig back in 2005.

“I did audition for Bond a long time ago when they were redoing it with Daniel Craig when he was Bond 21,” he told Live with Kelly and Ryan.
“They were going to go younger with him and it was a pretty god experience. It’s about time we got a Scottish Bond.”
If Heughan gets the part, he would be the first Scottish Bond since Sean Connery.
Fans still have one more movie with Craig at the helm to look forward to, with No Time To Die set for release next spring.
The first No Time To Die trailer dropped earlier this month, giving a glimpse at what’s in store for the famous spy and his new love Madeleine Swann (played by Lea Seydoux).
In the footage, Bond appeared to have suspicions about Swann as they were chased by gun-wielding bad guys.
“Why would I betray you?” she asked him, at which point he replied angrily: “We all have our secrets. We just didn’t get to yours yet.”
The video also showed the first proper look at Rami Malek as villain Safin, with severe scarring on his face and sporting a broken mask.
James Bond: No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas April 3, 2020.
