Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker confirms two MAJOR prequels characters are DEAD after all
WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE RISE OF SKYWALKER AHEAD. Star Wars Episode IX had a monumental finale, as Rey faced a restored Palpatine. But then suddenly the voices of 10 Force ghosts could be heard encouraging Rey that they were with her in The Rise of Skywalker‘s climactic scenes.
Of the 10 heard, there were some expected favourites including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Qui-Gon Jinn.
However, there were two that may surprise some Star Wars fans as their deaths in canon were far from confirmed until now.
Firstly there’s Ahsoka Tano, who featured in The Clones Wars and Star Wars Rebels animated TV shows.
The Togruta was Anakin’s Padawan who later dueled her former master as Darth Vader.

Mace Windu and Ahsoka Tano’s Force ghosts were heard, so both are dead in The Rise of Skywalker
The last we saw of Ahsoka in Star Wars canon was a flashforward to soon after the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi.
So presumably she died at some point between the end of the original trilogy and her appearance as a Force ghost voice to Rey in The Rise of Skywalker.
Additionally, another blow for fans will have been hearing the voice of Samuel L Jackson’s Mace Windu.
This Jedi Master was prominent throughout the prequels and even gave Palpatine his deformities during a lightsaber duel.
Star Wars canon timeline
However, Darth Sidious overpowered Windu and the last we saw of him was being flung out a window to his apparent death.
Nevertheless, in recent years Jackson has revealed George Lucas said his Jedi character could of survived.
Of course, this leaves the door open for the star to return as Windu in a future Star Wars movie set after Revenge of the Sith.
But nevertheless, he has died, whether in Episode III or later, by the time The Rise of Skywalker comes around.

While the confirmed deaths of Ahsoka and Mace will be sad for some fans, at least both can quite easily return in movies and TV shows set at different points in the timeline.
And who knows, maybe we’ll see their death scenes in another medium.
An example of this was Darth Maul’s apparent death in Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
And yet The Clone Wars TV show showed he survived being chopped in half and took on robotic legs.
Maul later returned for Star Wars Rebels and faced Obi-Wan Kenobi once again, where the Jedi Master finally finished him off in a duel.
But even then, Palpatine’s former apprentice did return in live-action as the surprise leader of Crimson Dawn in Solo – a film set before that death scene.
Sadly, Solo flopped at the box office so a sequel currently doesn’t look likely, but it’s possible the story could continue on Disney Plus.
Just imagine Han Solo vs Darth Maul in a movie or TV show set around Jabba the Hutt’s criminal underworld.
