Star Wars Rise of Skywalker: Who are THOSE voices? Who helps Rey fight?
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the final movie in the Skywalker saga, bringing an end to the story of Luke and Leia. Their story has been followed from the original series right through a prequel and sequel trilogy. But who were THOSE voices who spoke in one of the key moments of the new film?
***WARNING – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker spoilers ahead
In The Rise of Skywalker, the pre-script reveals the return of the dreaded and evil Sith lord, Emperor Palpatine.
It turns out he did not die when Darth Vader threw him into the Death Star’s reactor in The Return of the Jedi, but in fact he is being kept alive by machinery created in the unknown regions of the Sith, known as Exegol.
When this is discovered, Kylo Ren goes to destroy him, but instead Palpatine convinces him to kill Rey, so he can reign on the throne of the Sith.
Eventually, after much duelling and revelations, Kylo turns to the light, and returns to Exegol to find Rey there, ready to fight Palpatine, who has been revealed to be her grandfather.

Rey and Kylo Ren fight the Knights of Ren and other Sith guards, but Palpatine uses their joint Force energy to revive himself, at which point he is able to ascend to his throne, and control the army of the Final Order, who are ready to obliterate the Resistance.
Kylo Ren awakes after his energy is taken, and tries to fight again, but he is, as his grandfather did to Palpatine, throne down a gorge into the mist below.
At this, Rey tries to call on the Jedi to help her, as she has tried to do in her training.
Previously, when she asks the Jedi to “be with her” they do not return, however this time, voices from the Jedi return to revive and help her.
But who were those voices?
The first voice is that of Obi Wan Kenobi, voted by Ewan McGregor.
McGregor played Obi Wan in the prequel trilogy, and is reprising his role for an upcoming Obi Wan Kenobi series to be shown on the Disney+ platform.
Of the better known voices, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu spoke to Rey, urging her to fight and encouraging her, promising they will stand by her.

The voice of Yoda, by Frank Oz, was also heard, ensuring Rey their voices have always been with her.
Liam Neeson was also heard, speaking as Qui-Gon Jinn, the mentor to Obi-Wan and a young Anakin Skywalker, who was brutally killed in The Phantom Menace.
Of course, it would be incomplete without the voice of Alec Guinness, the original Obi-Wan, who also calls out Rey’s name through the use of archive footage.
There were also some lesser known voices, however, one of which came from Freddie Prinze Jr.

The actor portrays Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi who survived the Emperor’s purge and appears in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Along with them, Olivia d’Abo, Ashley Eckstein, Jennifer Hale and Angelique Perrin voiced a group of female Jedi masters: Luminara Unduli, Ahsoka Tano, Aayla Secura and Adi Gallia.
Luminara and Aayla appears in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, as well as animated series The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and were both killed during Order 66.

Ahsoka Tano appears in Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars, while Adi was a member of the Jedi Order’s High Council during the Clones Wars, and appears in Attack of the Clones and the Phantom Menace as well as the animated series, The Clone Wars.
Their voices give Rey the strength to fight and soon, she takes after Jackson’s Mace Windu and reflects Palpatine’s Dark Side rays back at him, melting his face and entire body – along with the Sith – to save the galaxy.
Hopefully, as the series of films continues with a whole new story, some of these Jedis will receive some more screen time and their stories will be told.
