The Met Office has warned snow is on the way as sub-zero temperatures creep into Britain from tomorrow. A surge of high pressure will trigger much calmer conditions for the UK from 6am tomorrow, with plunging temperatures due to set in. On Saturday evening, temperatures will be particularly teeth-chattering in London and across England due to freezing temperatures.

In Wales and Scotland conditions will drop to -5C.

In Northern Ireland conditions will reach -3C.

Met Office forecaster Bonnie Diamond told the Mail Online: “There is going to be a big change in the weather this weekend with high pressure arriving bringing much calmer but colder conditions.

“Overnight temperatures could dip widely to or below freezing and there will be the risk of showers along eastern coasts.

“As we enter a north-easterly flow, there will be a risk of snow showers along the coasts.

“Next week, high pressure over southern and central regions will bring more settled weather while the north could turn more unsettled again with a risk of showers and strong winds.”

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern added: “Temperatures in towns and cities will be at or just below freezing.

“In the countryside it will be a few degrees below freezing.

Moreover, in charts provided by Netweather, there is also a high chance of snow on Friday night as temperatures drop.

This week, the UK has been drenched following a prolonged period of rain with temperatures hovering around 10C (50F) for most of the week.

Due to Storm Brendan, people across the country experienced severe weather conditions with wind gusts measuring 121mph (194kmh) recorded at Cairngorm National Park.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for the next 48 hours, warning of gale-force winds and torrential downpours, both of which carry a risk of flooding and power cuts.
