Man Utd chief Ed Woodward in talks with former PSG boss over director of football role
Manchester United could finally be closing in on a director of football, after reports that the club are in talks with former Paris Saint-Germain chief Antero Henriques. The Red Devils have previously been criticised for failing to appoint a director of football, as they attempt to improve their recruitment.
United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, wasn’t planning on bringing in a director of football.
The club had previously interviewed candidates for the role, including Old Trafford legends Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher.
But, the idea simply fell away, and the idea of recruiting a director of football wasn’t on the club’s radar.
But, it’s now been revealed that Woodward is in talks with former PSG sporting director Henrique over the role, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Fans have urged Woodward and the United board to appoint a director of football to improve the overall quality of signings.
The club spent £53million on Brazilian Fred in 2018, as well as £20m on Diogo Dalot.
Previously, the Red Devils bought Henrikh Mkhitaryan for £27m, Eric Bailly for £24m, Morgan Schneiderlin for £32m, and Memphis Depay for £31m.
That also doesn’t include the £68m for Angel Di Maria, £16m for Matteo Darmian, £18m for Marcos Rojo, and £30m for Marouane Fellaini, or the millions splashed out on wages for Alexis Sanchez.
Meanwhile, Henrique has been out of a job since leaving PSG last year.
He quit the Parcs des Princes in July 2019, amid rising speculation that Leonardo would be returning to the club.
At the time, a PSG statement read: “Paris Saint-Germain and Antero Henrique have decided to terminate their agreement by mutual consent.
“In his two seasons as sporting director since joining Paris Saint-Germain on 2 June 2017, the Portuguese helped the men’s senior team to the Ligue 1 title in 2018 and 2019, the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue wins in 2018 as well as the Trophée des Champions in 2017 and 2018.
“The club thanks Antero Henrique for his professionalism and commitment over the past two years and wishes him all the best for his future projects.”
