A tweet from an account calling itself @BBCNewsTonight posted a breaking news story, claiming Daniel Radcliffe is the first “famous person” to have coronavirus.
The account wrote a strong headline with a link to the BBC website, which shows people how to get BBC News Alerts on their phones.
The headline read: “BREAKING: Daniel Radcliffe tests positive for coronavirus. The actor is said to be the first famous person to be publicly confirmed. More here”
However, fans soon started to smell a rat and soon enough, it was revealed to be the case that the reports were totally false.

Does Daniel Radcliffe have coronavirus?
The account raised some concerns, firstly given it claimed to be affiliated with the BBC, despite have only 100 followers.
Given the real @BBCNews account has more than 10million people following it, while the BBC Breaking News account has more than 40millions followers, clearly there was something fishy.
Similarly, the account was not verified by Twitter, which is the case for all of the BBC Twitter accounts, of which there are a fair few.
The link which the tweet lead its readers to was also not convincing, as it took them to a generic BBC page rather than to an actual story, showing the story was not real at all.

Later in the day, a reporter for Buzzfeed, Jane Lytvynenko, tweeted they had been in contact with Radcliffe’s publicist.
The tweet from @JaneLytv simply said: “Daniel Radcliffe’s publicist tells me: ‘Not true.’”
The original Twitter account @BBCNewsTonight was, needless to say, suspended in response to the fake news by Twitter.
One of the members of the group behind the tweet told Buzzfeed: “We needed someone who was famous but not famous enough to be unbelievable.”
Another added: “We [found] a celebrity that people care about but [didn’t] really have relevant fame.
Many have got the coronavirus over the last few months
”People love Daniel Radcliffe as a childhood star, but he isn’t popular on social media.”
Of course, fans know Radcliffe does not use social media
So, it seems Daniel Radcliffe does not have coronavirus, so fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
At present, Radcliffe was last seen in a movie called Escape from Pretoria, a film following three prisoners who try to escape prison during the Apartheid.
All three were imprisoned for their political views, and the real life story sees Radcliffe play the leading escapee, Tim Jenkin.
