Star Wars 8 leaks: Will Luke Skywalker plot mimic Obi-Wan Kenobi? Mark Hamill speaks

Certainly the signs have pointed that way so far: like Obi-Wan, Luke was searched down by the film’s protagonists in the hope of helping their cause and, in the process, training a pivotal young upstart.

In Star Wars: A New Hope, it was Luke himself; now, it’s Rey.

However, Hamill has said: “No-one just wants to see a retread of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“We’ve seen the benevolent Jedi master training people.”

He went on: “[In the trailer], Luke says, ‘I only know one truth: It’s time for the Jedi to end.’

“You haven’t figured out what Luke’s been doing for 30 years, (but) how does the most optimistic character in all the movies get to that point?”

He slyly added: “It won’t be much longer now until you find out.”

Hints on Luke’s trajectory going forward may arrive in the new Star Wars 8 trailer, due to arrive tonight.

The new clip is expected at around 3:00am in the UK, at halftime in the NFL Bears vs Vikings game.

Tickets for the film will go on sale soon after.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on December 14 in the UK.
