Cinemas reopening ‘DELAYED until Christmas’ if THIS doesn’t happen
First James Bond movie No Time To Die went, then other studios pulled their major releases ahead of the lockdown. Most were delayed until this summer, Christmas or 2021, while some have gone straight to on-demand. However, Warner Bros stood its ground and hasn’t moved Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster Tenet, due to release on July 17.
Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s coronavirus update on Sunday, cinemas could possibly reopen from July 4 in the UK.
However, some cinemas have already laid out plans for limited or gapped seating, and there’s no guarantee the public will flock to be part of the audience either – what with the threat of coronavirus not going away anytime soon.
So even if Tenet still releases on July 17, with Disney’s Mulan closely following on July 24, it’s still a gamble.
And it’s one that’s being weighed up stateside too, with a rival studio’s source saying it all hangs on Tenet as to whether there will be any movies in cinemas before Christmas.

Let’s also not forget that even if the summer goes well with cinemas reopening and a profitable box office, there’s always the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 in autumn.
October into early 2021 is flu season so November and Christmas releases could be in trouble.
There are even murmurings of James Bond movie No Time To Die moving again from November 12 to a 2021 release, according to Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye.
Baz’s close Bond source said: “If it has to wait till next year then so be it.”
