BBC Weather: Carol Kirkwood warns of scorching 28C Iberian air before Atlantic storm hits
The BBC Weather meteorologist said temperatures will reach highs of 28C for some on Wednesday before thunderstorms will reach the south-east of the country on Thursday and an Atlantic storm will hit on Friday. Carol Kirkwood said: “As we head to tomorrow, high pressure that’s dominating our weather gets a little bit further east, that opens the doors to these southerly winds coming up from Spain and also from France across the board.
“So it’s going to be a warmer day tomorrow than it’s going to be today.
“We’ll also see a fair bit of sunshine around on the west coast for many of us when we lose the low cloud, the mist and the fog.
“Temperatures up to 27C or 28C in London, 22C in Glasgow and 17C in Belfast.
“So even if you’re stuck under any lingering cloud it will still feel quite warm.

“By the time we get to Thursday we have a weak weather front coming into the west. That’s going to be drifting eastwards as a weak feature but coming up from the south we’re likely to see some thunderstorms.
“Not all of us will catch them and if you don’t catch them, it’s still going to be a warm day: 26C or 27C in the south-east. But even if you do catch one, we’re still looking at temperatures which are pretty high for the time of the year for most of us.”
She added: “As we head on into Friday, this deep area of low pressure coming in from the Atlantic is coming our way with this front.
“It’s going to bring some rain across most areas but nothing particularly heavy in the south-east.
“But the wind will certainly be a feature in the west, particularly in north-west Scotland were we’ll get gales and gusts up to 60, possibly 65mph.”
The forecast was echoed by Met Office meteorologists.
Forecaster Marco Petagna said: “It warms up from Wednesday with the mid-20s on Friday in the south, then cold Arctic air sweeps south across the UK during the weekend, and could see snow on Scottish mountains.”
The glorious sunshine will be especially enjoyable in the south of England.
Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge told Cornwall Live: “Very much so…. the jet stream has moved north, and that’s one of the biggest drivers of unsettled weather.

Mr Grahame said there is “always the potential for rain and showers”, but added: “The transition from spring to summer is looking largely dry and fine… a good period of settled weather.”
The long range weather forecast, up to June 11, from the Met Office is looking pretty sunny as it stands.
The forecast predicts this high pressure dominating until the end of May and could continue well into the middle of June.
The Met Office said: “Although with low confidence, this period looks to stay largely dry and fine with bright or sunny spells for many.
“Despite the dominance of settled weather, this doesn’t rule out some spells of rain or showers, with any prolonged rain more likely in the northwest.
“Temperatures generally trending on the warmer side with an increased chance of some very warm/hot spells in the south.”
