Why Meghan Markle should ditch alcohol ahead of the royal wedding, according to experts
Meghan Markle, 36-year-old Suits actress who is set to marry Prince Harry, 33, is a big fan of wine.
The TV star even named her blog ‘The Tig’ after one of her favourite tipples, the Tignanello.
She told People in 2017: “Tignanello is a full-bodied red wine that I tried about seven years ago. In wine circles, it is nicknamed ‘Tig.’
“It was my first moment of getting it — I finally understood what people meant by the body structure, finish, legs of wine. The TIG is my nickname for me getting it. Not just wine, but everything.”
However, the wine is not cheap. Fortum & Mason sell a bottle for £100.
Meghan could save herself some cash and some hangovers by giving up wine to prepare for her royal wedding, as an expert nutritionist suspects she should.
Nutritionist Helen Bond revealed that one of the best ways to make sure you are looking your best for your wedding is cutting down on the alcohol.
She said: “Alcohol contains little other than calories, so if your wedding dress or outfit is still a bit tight, it’s wise to cut down.”
The expert added: “Everybody loves a glass of Pimm’s, but your favourite sunshine tipple contains over 160 calories and 20g sugar – that’s 5 tsp of sugar and two thirds of your daily maximum free sugar allowance.”
There are other beauty benefits of sobriety, too.
Jill Holden, beauty and spa therapy teacher at Gateshead College, told the Independent: “Many of us spend so much on make-up and moisturisers to keep our skin looking bright and fresh; it’s such a waste to counteract all of this time and effort by drinking alcohol.”
What with better sleep being thrown in the mix too, going teetotal will have your eyes sparkling and skin glowing.

Celebrity personal trainer Paulette Sybliss has revealed the workout plan Meghan Markle should follow to ensure she is in tip top shape.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Paulette said: “Meghan is already in great shape so to ensure she looks spectacular for her big day and has the perfect bikini body on her honeymoon I would recommend she focus on a balanced workout routine, some resistance training and some yoga, which she loves to do.
“Also some selected cardio that will get every part of her body toned and in amazing shape.
“Meghan’s dress is bound to be breathtaking and may well show off her upper body.”
