It still seems rather harsh that her Southern drawl was over-dubbed since co-star Christopher Lambert’s mangled vowels were left untouched.

In 1991’s The Object of Beauty MacDowell and John Malkovich play a glamorous and sexually adventurous couple living in a hotel. Don’t be concerned that the actress had her voice cut again, this hard to find saucy clip is from the German version.

Sex, Lies and Videotape was the hottest film of 1989 and helped give MacDowell much-needed credibility as an actress.

Steven Soderburg’s outrageous tale of sexual mores won best picture at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, and also starred Peter Gallagher and James Spader. Critics delighted in calling it “scorchingly erotic” and “a delicate and sexually-charged film.”

The End of Violence was huge 1997 box office flop but displayed MacDowell in all her laguid beauty cutting through a swimming pool or firing a gun in her bra and knickers.

In 2015’s Magic Mike XXL the actress played a Southern women worrying her time had past, until Joe Manganiello’s cocky male stripper Big Dick Ritchie reminded her: “It’s still your day.”

The scene had a particularly rude pay off that poor Ritchie had never found a woman able to cope with his oversized member – until now.
