Ant-Man and the Wasp: Release date, trailer, cast, plot, all you need to know

The follow-up to the 2015 Marvel movie, which starred Paul Rudd as the titular hero and scored $519.3 million at the worldwide box office, is out this summer.

With Rudd missing from the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War, it’s assumed that his filming for the Ant-Man sequel rendered him too busy to partake in the ensemble blockbuster.

So is that all the more reason to get excited for what could be a big hit this summer? All the info you need below.

RELEASE DATE

Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently slated for release on August 3 in the UK – almost a full month later than the US.

The USA will get the movie on July 6, along with many other global territories.

TRAILER

As of January, the first trailer is out, but keeps many plot details under wraps.

It’s had 12.3 million views on the Marvel YouTube channel since its release at the start of 2018. Watch below.

CAST

Alongside a returning Rudd will be Evangeline Lily, reprising the role of Hope van Dyne, and stepping into the suit of the Wasp.

Michelle Pfeiffer joins the fun as her mother Janet van Dyne, with Michael Peña as Luis, Walton Goggins as Sonny Birch, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Judy Greer as Maggie and TI as Dave. Michael Douglas plays Hank Pym, and Stan Lee has a cameo in the mix somewhere.

Hannah John-Kamen is playing Ghost, a role that was previously male in the comics.

“The Ghost character could be male, female, anything, so it just seemed more interesting to us [to cast a woman],” said director Brad Peyton.

“Ghost’s primary power is the ability to ‘phase,’ which allows Ghost to move through solid matter. She has all sorts of strange versions of that phasing power — it proves quite difficult for Ant-Man and Wasp to deal with.”

PLOT

Still little is known about the film’s story, but it is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War but before Avengers: Infinity War.

It will show Rudd’s Scott Lang trying to balance his parenting duties with life as a superhero, as Hope and Hank present him with a new mission – one which will require him to team up with Hope in full Wasp mode.
