Avengers Infinity War deaths: Is [SPOILER] gone FOREVER? 'No resurrection' in Avengers 4
“Everyone in the cinema was crying” is one of the most common reactions to the new Avengers blockbuster.
Marvel movies are known for their thrills and hilarious wit and banter. The last time they reduces entire cinemas to tears was during the heartbreaking funeral for Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
This time, the blows keep coming throughout Infinity War. Even so, with the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already shaping up for the next few years it seems totally impossible that some of the shocking deaths won’t be undone somehow.
But not this one. It looks like one fan favourite really is gone for good and here are eight devastating clues why.
WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
LAST CHANCE TO AVOID MAJOR INFINITY WAR SPOILERS:
The death toll was expected to be high by the end but many (including our own predictions) suspected that one of the biggest shocks would come at the every start of the movie – and we were right.
The opening scene on board the Asgradian rescue ship was brutal and devastating.
Given the chance to save his own life by sacrificing Thor and handing over the Tesseract, Loki had one last glorious moment of defiance and brotherly love. He paid with his life, but Thanos’ words afterward were even more chilling.
EIGHT CLUES THAT LOKI IS DEAD AND WON’T BE COMING BACK:
1. As the devastated Thor (and the audience) stared at Loki’s corpse, Thanos said there would be “no resurrection” this time.
Loki the Trickster has come back from apparent death before but this one really seems final. He may be a half-god but both Odin and Freya have already been shown passing across into a final death.
2. As the film progresses, the death toll rises but there seems to be a harsh divide growing between those killed brutally at Thanos’ own hands and those who fade away after The Snap, when he erases half of all living creatures, including many Marvel heroes.
3. What about the next movie? The IMDB cast list for Avengers 4 does not include Tom Hiddleston, but does include many of the characters who faded away to dust during The Snap.
4. Nor, tellingly, does it include Paul Bettany or Idris Elba, whose characters Vision and Heimdall were also killed directly by Thanos and his Black Guard. Of course, cast lists can change.
5. More worryingly, loved as they are, none of these three are likely to have their own spin-off movies lined up, nor do they have any links to the future Phase 4 franchises like Captain Marvel, Black Panther or Spider-Man.
6. All the heroes (except maybe Scarlet Witch) who were shown dying in The Snap are firmly expected to continue somehow into Phase 4 and beyond.
7. Early photos from the Avengers 4 Atlanta set have only shown characters we saw survive Infinity War, like Captain America, Thor and Iron Man who are all likely to bow out after that movie. Marvel has already teased that Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and Hawkeye will appear in the follow-up, why bring back unnecessary characters to an already overcrowded film?
8. Worst of all, if everyone who dies in Infinity War is somehow resurrected, what was the point of the movie? Some major characters surely have to remain dead to give weight to what has happened.
Did we really have our last ever look at Loki?
