Avengers Infinity War: Surprising truth behind THAT Star-Lord and Gamora moment (SPOILERS)

WARNING: Spoilers for Avengers – Infinity War ahead.

There’s a scene towards the start of the Marvel movie in which Gamora (Zoe Saldana) tells Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), that she knows the whereabouts of the Soul Stone.

She also demands that Quill kill her if she should ever be captured by Thanos – because nothing would be worse than him finding the Stone, and it would be imperative that the secret of its location die with her.

When Thanos does ultimately get his hands on Gamora, she reminds Quill of his promise to her, leading to a tense stand-off where he struggles with whether or not to pull the trigger on the one he loves.

Ultimately he does – but Thanos uses abilities gleaned from the other Stones to change the bullets into bubbles, and he gets away with Gamora; who eventually gives away the location of the Soul Stone when she finds Nebula (Karen Gillan) being tortured.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Steven McFeely said that the script originally had Quill flat-out refusing to pull the trigger on Gamora.

But it was Pratt himself, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn, who persuaded them otherwise.

“The more I think about it, the better it is that it got changed,” he said.

And that ultimately led to an unfortunate recurrence of the men in Gamora’s life sacrificing her: Thanos later threw her to her death in order to obtain the Stone.

“Thanos has that same choice later [to kill Gamora], and he chooses to do it and succeeds,” McFeely added.

“Wanda has that same choice later [with Vision]. A lot of characters have really tough choices to make.”
