Will Meghan Markle’s ‘£40,000 showstopper’ wedding dress outdo Kate Middleton's?

Meghan Markle, 36, a former-Suits actress, will marry Prince Harry, 33, in a ceremony on 19 May.

It was revealed last week that the LA-born Meghan Markle’s wedding dress is by Ralph & Russo.

An insider told Daily Mail Meghan has chosen the Australian brand to make one of her dresses.

They said: “It sounds a lot but this is the wedding of the year and hundreds of hours of manpower have gone into making it, almost all by hand.”

The dress, like many of the designs by Australian designer duo, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, is said to be adorned with embroidery and appliqué.

A source has also told the Sun that Meghan’s royal wedding dress from the brand will cost £40,000.

This is far less than the £250,000 Kate Middleton’s dress is said to have cost.

However, Meghan’s gown may still outdo the Duchess of Cambridge’s when it comes to ramping up the drama – fitting for an actress.

The insider told the paper: “It’s a breathtaking dress and more of a show-stopper than Kate Middleton’s wedding gown, but it also adheres to royal etiquette.

“Her shoulders, for example, will be covered in the chapel.”

Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was made from white and ivory satin, and was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. 

The 35-year-old Duchess looked stunning in the gown with floral lace details on the bodice, which nipped in her tiny waist.

The dress was made of silk, tulle, organza and satin gazar, with a Victorian-style semi-bustle at the back.

The dress was designed with some extra padding around the hips to accentuate the narrow waist of the corset.

Kate Middleton’s wedding day earrings were also a tribute to her mother-in-law Princess Diana. 

Both the women wore earrings, which were gifts from their parents.

Princess Diana, who was then only 19 and known as Lady Diana Spencer, wore drop earrings – a favourite style of Kate’s now.
