Avengers Infinity War: Who is the Black Order In Infinity War?

In Infinity War, Mad Titan Thanos finally makes his move to secure the six infinity stones to wipe out half the universe, storming Earth in order to kill the Avengers and gain his prize.

A whole host of Marvel heroes attempt to stop him, including some of our favourite characters from the past 10 years of the MCU. 

Among the returning characters are several new heroes, as well as a few new villains.

Thanos has his small band of villainous henchmen, but who is the Black Order? 

The Black Order 

In the comics, Thanos has a group of henchmen who are sworn to do his bidding, each with their own specific powers. 

Arrogant and typically attempting to win over the affection of Lady Death in the comics, Thanos has little time to actually hunt down the stones and kill the Avengers, leaving his plans down to his level lieutenants. 

The group of ruthless aliens help Thanos raze worlds from which they demand tribute, hunting down the stones. 

Making their first appearance in the comics in Avengers #8 in 2013, the Black Order has become renowned for their cruelty. 

Corvus Glaive

Corvus Glaive is Thano’s most favoured general, whom he trusts the most. 

In the comics, Corvus even takes over from Thanos when the multiverse is destroyed, building his own evil empire in place of the Mad Titan. 

Glaive has enhanced strength, speed, durability and endurance, using a bladed pike to slice through most things in the Marvel universe. 

When Corvus Glaive has the bladed pike in his hand, it makes him immortal. 

In the comic, he commits suicide to avoid being killed by Thanos. In the movies, Corvus has a relatively short life-span, succumbing to grave injuries thanks to Cap and Black Widow. 

Ebony Maw

Holding genius-level intellect, Maw is capable of persuading people to do anything he wishes.

He can teleport and create forcefields in the comics, but his power is much higher in the movies. 

He is able to hover off the ground and seemingly control things with his mind, manipulating both Doctor Strange and Iron Man in a fight in New York. 

Ebony Maw is played physically by Tom Vaughan-Lawler, though no voice actor for the role has been named.

Proxima Midnight

Wife to Corvus Glaive, Proxima is a master hand-to-hand combatant, capable of immense strength and speed. 

She wields a special lance that holds the power of a dying star in it, transforming it into a powerful blade of light that can destroy anything. 

In Infinity War, Proxima Midnight is played (or at least voiced) by actress Carrie Coon. Her body actress has not been named.

Cull Obsidian

Technically called Black Dwarf, Cull is the giant, troll-looking monster on the team. 

Cull Obsidian is the name of the Black Order from the comics but has been transferred to the hulking character for the film. 

Possessed of strength and nigh-invulnerable skin, he’s also the brother of Corvus Glaive.

Cull Obsidian’s body actor is Terry Notary of Lord of the Rings fame (who was also the film’s Teen Groot body actor) though his voice actor remains unidentified.
