The Predator FIRST trailer: Release date, cast and TERRIBLE fan reaction

Hopes were high.

The original Predator movie was refreshing and thrilling but subsequent sequels and spin-offs have failed to recapture that mix of simple storytelling and taught terror.

The soft reboot is a passion project for Iron Man 3 director Shane Black and has a strong cast.

After a worrying delay lack of any advance images or footage and rumours of reshoots, let alone the sudden dropping of the March 2018 release date, the first teaser trailer dropped today with little fanfare.

Here is everything you need to know about the movie, plus some of the damning first fan comments.

Although the trailer neatly recreates a classic shot from the original wth Arnold Schwarzenegger, the studio will be concerned that rather than general rants, fans have precisely pin-pointed every aspect of the first teaser to criticise.

PLOT:

“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

The movie a fine cast including Logan villain Boyd Holbrook, Room child star Jacob Tremblay, X-Men’s Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown from This Is Us, as well as Game of Thrones Brit Alfie Allen. 

HOW IS THIS A REBOOT?

Fox executive Stacey Snider said: “We’ve got a Predator film coming out that is unexpected and utterly fresh… From the first page, it didn’t read like a Predator film. It’s set in suburbia. There’s a little boy and his dad at the center of the action.”

FIRST FAN REACTIONS TO THE TRAILER:

“‘From the director of Iron Man 3’, so the Predator is going to be a joke?”

“Wow, they just keep getting worse.”

“”Genetically upgraded themselves’? This doesn’t sound like the Predator at all, more like a cheesy 90’s flick. Kinda makes predators simple killing monsters and ditches all the lore. They are advanced alien hunters for f***s sake.”

“So am I the only one that thinks the predators modifying their dna goes against everything the predators believe?”

“This looks like a generic action blockbuster movie, this is not what Predator is, I’m already disappointed.”

“Looks as cheesy and boring as it’s predecessors.”

“Involving Kids!… this is gonna bomb!”
